who we are

About Us

Site E is a loose collective of artists, volunteers, friends, and random strangers. You can read through our FAQ here. Joining Site E is as easy as showing up for a build day, helping out with any of our ongoing projects, or needing help with an idea of your own. We build weird things, because we can.

The Crew

Troy A.

Troy - "Salty"

Is an Edmonton based troublemaker and founder of Site E who has been creating art for over 4 decades with only minimal improvements over that time. His projects span a multitude of different mediums including sculpture, metal & wood work, textiles, light and sound installations. He strives to bring a feeling of childlike wonder, humor and mischievousness to peoples lives, and his works often capture a level of absurdity and surrealism leaving the viewer smiling or laughing.

Ailee B.

Ailee B.

Ailee has a long history of bending Words, Paint, Felt, and any other medium she can get her hands on into stunning works of art. “My passion is for characters. Whether I am writing fiction or non-fiction, the drive, passion, and conflict that people possess is what inspires me to put pen to paper, fingers to keyboard, and thought to words.”

Aoife R.

Aoife R.

Currently the title holder of “Best Welder of Site E”, Aoife grew up on a sheep farm outside Galway before a poorly-timed layover in Edmonton turned into eleven years and counting. Trained as an industrial electrician, she spends her days rewiring things that were never meant to move and her nights making sure they move anyway. She's the reason Site E's larger pieces blink, hum, and occasionally shoot sparks in time with the music. When she's not elbow-deep in a control panel, she's teaching herself blacksmithing out of pure spite for anyone who says it's a dying art.

Mich K.

Mich - "Just Mich"

Mich was a competitive figure skater until a botched triple axel convinced them that gravity was more of a suggestion than a rule, which is more or less how they've approached art ever since. A self-taught fabricator and part-time philosophy dropout, Mich builds kinetic sculptures that look like they shouldn't balance and somehow do. They claim to have once welded an entire piece during a power outage using only a headlamp and spite. Nobody has been able to confirm or deny this.

Anh A.

Anh - "Yellowtail"

Anh was born in 1910 in Rowena, Texas, the second of three children. Her father, was a bricklayer who died when Anh was four years old. Her widowed mother moved her family back to her parents’ home in Cement City, an industrial suburb in West Dallas where she worked as a seamstress. As an adult, Anh wrote poems such as “The Story of Suicide Sal” and “The Trail’s End”, the latter more commonly known as “The Story of Bonnie and Clyde”. Or that could be the bio of Bonnie Elizabeth Parker, we’re not sure.

FAQ

Where did Site E come from?

We needed to form a group and call ourselves something to get insurance for some of our larger art pieces. Having been very big fans of Site 3 CoLaboratory we took their idea and modified it for Edmonton….get it? Site E? E for Edmonton? We aren’t very clever.

Who can join Site E? How do you join Site E?

Anyone can join, we aren’t very exclusive at all. Simply showing up one day to a build day or reaching out with an idea of something you’d like to make is really all that’s required. You will be expected to be open and welcoming of anyone who joins us, we heckle everyone and we love everyone.

Can I sponsor a project with materials or give you money?

We love you. Forever. Yes. Email us please

You should come to XXXX Festival!

We agree, send us some details!
